USCGC TAMAROA - WMEC-166

Stories/Anecdotes

I am glad to see someone showing concern over the Tam's future. I served on the ship from July 1991 through 1993. I was one of the men out on deck the night of the Halloween storm of 1991 (Perfect Storm). The ship means a lot to me and I am concerned about its future. The Tam was the first unit I was assigned to. Then at the end of 1993 I was transferred to USCG station Beach Haven, NJ.

I was discharged in June of 1994, on a convenience of the government discharge which I requested to enter a job in law enforcement with the Long Beach Township Police Department in New Jersey. This was a time when the Coast Guard was trying to downsize to save money. I still have a lot of memories of the ship and wanted to share my thoughts with you. I have some pictures of some rescues, I would have to go through them to see. Thank you for starting the web site and trying to save my old ship.
