I'm a retired CG Commander. I was the last XO on TAMAROA and feel my time on her was the highlight of my Coast Guard career.
I remember the decommissioning. Wow, was that a cold day. February 1, 1994. Brilliant blue skies (looks great on video) but the temperature was about 10 degrees with a wind chill well below 0! Good thing the crew was sheltered from the wind by the ship. Typical that her final duty was to keep the guys protected. She'd done it her whole career!
Here are some photos of the Tam. Like an old prize fighter that carries news clippings of his fights in his wallet, I carry these
photos in my brief case and share them with unsuspecting victims! Usually I just show 2 of the 3 (you can tell which one I leave out) But for the Coasties I show all 3.

This one is at GI pier in April 1981. Although it's a terrible picture perhaps it's hopeful as well. If she can come back from this condition once she can do it again!

This pier side picture is at Coast Guard Yard in summer 1993 when we were there to do the Test and Evaluation for USNS Vindicator, a ship the CG was considering buying (and eventually did) for use in the Caribbean as
a migrant interdiction/holding platform.

This last picture is from later that same summer (93). Thanks again for all your hard work on behalf of TAM and her fine crew.
